Dr Ashwani Maichand’s contributions are recognised by the medical society throughout the globe. There are countless success stories that reiterate the fact that Dr Maichand is indeed one of the most trusted orthopedic surgeons in India.
- A case that made it to the headlines involved hip-replacement surgery of a 101-year old lady from Panipat. Cemented hip replacement surgery was done using the MIS technique to treat the femoral neck fracture. Dr Ashwani Maichand’s experience coupled with the diligence of his specialised team of cardiologists, nephrologists and anaesthesiologists reaped remarkable results. The procedure required no blood transfusion. Also, there was no need to move her to the ICU. The patient started walking right from the next day of the surgery with the help of a walker.
- A 38-year old man complained of severe pain and swelling in right knee as he met a road accident. Dr Ashwani Maichand carried out X-rays and MRI scans that showed fracture patella, ACL tear, MPFL tear (Medial Patellofemoral Ligament), Medial Meniscus Tear and Loose body in the knee joint. Dr Maichand and his team of doctors fixed fracture patella with wires and repaired meniscus arthroscopically. Also, ACL was accurately reconstructed. MPFL repairing was done in one sitting to ensure early mobility and prevention of limb deformity, joint stiffness and muscle mass loss. The treatment was successful and the patient could even bend his knee without much discomfort.
- Severe back ache forced a 26-year old man from Kuwait to fly down to India in order to consult Dr Ashwani Maichand. The pain in his back was gradually extending to his right leg. He also eventually lost control over his right ankle. A walk of 50 meters usually left him in unbearable pain. It was diagnosed that the patient had Slipped Disc (PIVD) at two levels, L4-5 and L5-S1. Dr Maichand and his team performed two-level endoscopic discectomy with a single 10 mm incision. The surgery was successfully done and the patient could get back to pain-free walking on the same day.
